What Effy is

Effy reads the lecture material you upload and writes study notes, quiz questions and flashcards from it, and lets you work with it by hand and ask questions about it. The service is available on the web and as an iPad app, and is provided by Effy AS (private limited company), org. no. 938 696 764, Hamar, Norway. By using it, you accept the terms below.

Most important first: the notes can be wrong

The notes and quizzes are written by a language model. We have built in checks — the answer to a question must be quotable word for word from your material, and it is reviewed by a separate checking pass that discards it when in doubt — but neither is a guarantee. A model can reason wrongly about something it has constructed itself, and that happens.

Use Effy as a first draft and a study aid, not as an answer key. Check everything you will use for an exam against your syllabus. We are not responsible for grades, exam results or decisions made on the basis of what the service writes.

Account

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. The account is yours alone — you are responsible for what happens through it, and for not sharing your sign-in codes and links. Tell contact@effystudy.com if you think someone else has gained access.

What you upload

You keep all rights to the material you upload, and to the notes made from it. We use it only to provide the service to you.

You are responsible for having the right to upload the material. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to use, or anything containing personal data about others that does not belong there.

Copyright and infringement notices

If you believe something uploaded to Effy infringes your copyright, write to contact@effystudy.com with the subject «Copyright notice». Include:

  • which work it concerns,
  • where in Effy the material is, or enough for us to find it,
  • the name, address and email of you or the person you represent,
  • a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not permitted, that the information is accurate, and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the rights holder,
  • your signature, physical or electronic.

We remove or block the material promptly and tell the person who uploaded it. If they believe it was removed by mistake, they can send us a counter-notice with their reasons. Accounts that repeatedly upload material they do not have the right to use are closed.

Payment

  • Generations cost credits. How many a generation costs is shown before you order it.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card details.
  • Prices may change. Changes are announced by email at least 30 days before they apply to you, and you can cancel before they take effect.

As a consumer, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital services. When you pay, we ask you to agree that delivery starts right away — and you then lose the right of withdrawal for each generation you start, as the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act provides. Unused credits are refunded if you cancel within the withdrawal period.

If a generation fails because of an error on our side, no credit is charged. If it has already been charged, you get it back.

What you may not use the service for

  • Circumventing or straining the service in ways it is not meant for — automated mass uploads, attempts to access other people’s data, or security testing without an agreement with us.
  • Uploading material you do not have the right to use, or content that is illegal.
  • Reselling or passing on your access to others.

We may close an account that breaks these rules. If the breach is not serious, we tell you first and give you a chance to fix it.

Availability

We do our best to keep the service working, but we do not promise any particular uptime. We may take it down for maintenance, and we give notice in advance when we can.

Liability

Our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the last twelve months. We are not liable for indirect loss. Nothing here limits liability for intent, gross negligence or anything else that cannot be excluded under Norwegian law — and as a consumer you always have the rights consumer law gives you, whatever it says here.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time. Your content is then deleted, as described in the privacy policy. We may terminate the agreement with 30 days’ notice, and then refund the unused part of the period you have paid for.

Contact

Questions about the service, your account or these terms: contact@effystudy.com. See also the support page.

Governing law

Norwegian law applies. We first try to resolve any disagreement directly with you: write to contact@effystudy.com. If that does not work, disputes are settled by the ordinary courts, with Hamar as the venue. As a consumer you can always use the courts where you live instead, and you can complain to the Norwegian Consumer Council (Forbrukerrådet), which can mediate and bring the case before the Consumer Disputes Commission.
